Painting Demo

   White Azalea
II started out with a light charcoal sketch, blocking in a few of the
larger shapes. Once I got the general placement down I started in
on the center of interest and worked out from there.
I began adding some background color with my  large
bristle brushes. I wanted to keep fairly abstract as to just
enhance the flower a bit  rather than choosing a solid black
for this one.
Continuing to work the petals and the background back
and forth with  warm values then cool ones... Gradually
pushing back the abstract colors behind the flower a bit
more, keeping the edges soft.
My final steps were adjusting my darkest darks in
relation to my lightest light, tweeked the shadows a bit
more, and adding detail to the center with my small
langnickel brushes.

I put down  warm and cool colors on the petals,  keeping
in mind the larger shapes.
